Restore the look of a fuller head of hair with scalp micropigmentation (SMP) in Newcastle. SMP recreates the appearance of hair follicles, making it ideal for hair loss, thinning hair, receding hairlines and scars. Through our specialist Scalp North East service at our Metrocentre clinic, every treatment is designed around your face, skin tone and style. Sometimes called a hair tattoo, SMP is one of our most requested treatments in Newcastle.

Who it’s for
SMP suits men and women with hair loss, thinning or alopecia, and anyone wanting to camouflage scars, including hair transplant scars. It works for a close-shaved look, to add density to longer hair, or to define a hairline. It’s one of our most requested men’s treatments, and is also part of our specialist medical tattooing range.
How it works
At your free consultation we’ll design your hairline and talk through the look you want. Fine pigment is then placed in the scalp in layers to recreate the look of tiny hair follicles. Most clients need 3–4 sessions, each taking 1–3 hours, matched to your skin tone and hair colour for a realistic finish.
Price: from £350. We’ll confirm your price at your consultation.
Aftercare
Keep your scalp dry and avoid sweating, swimming and direct sun for around 7–10 days while it heals. Mild redness is normal for a day or two. Results typically last 3–5 years, and a quick top-up session keeps them looking fresh.
FAQs
Does SMP regrow hair or treat the cause of hair loss?
No. SMP is a cosmetic appearance treatment. It may change the look of density or hairline definition, but it does not regrow hair, diagnose causes of hair loss or replace medical assessment. Seek appropriate medical advice for new concerns.
Can both men and women enquire about SMP?
Yes. Men and women can discuss SMP, with plans tailored to individual goals, existing hair and preferred hairstyle. Consultation is used to assess suitability and set realistic expectations for your own scalp presentation rather than assume a standard result.
Can SMP be considered for alopecia or scars?
These concerns can be discussed, but suitability is assessed case by case. Some scars or areas may not be appropriate. Your practitioner should explain what can reasonably be considered before you make a commitment, without guaranteeing coverage or an outcome.
How much does scalp micropigmentation cost?
SMP starts from £350. We'll confirm your exact price at your free consultation, as it depends on the area and number of sessions.
How many SMP sessions will I need?
Some people follow a staged pathway, but there is no single number that suits every plan. Sessions are discussed at consultation and reviewed as treatment settles. Confirm the proposed number, spacing and any review appointments before booking.
How long does SMP last?
Longevity and maintenance needs vary. Discuss your preferred look, scalp care and how pigment may change over time with your practitioner. Future refresh decisions are based on consultation and review, not a promise of permanent unchanged colour.
